Accessible London

The hustle and bustle of London can be daunting for passengers with limited mobility or those travelling with young children. The good news is that over the years the Capital has become much more accessible and easy to get around, which means that a day out need not be difficult.

Of course, when you plan your sightseeing cruise on the Thames with us, you can rest assured that many of our boats are wheelchair and buggy accessible. In addition, dogs are very welcome to join you, whether they’re registered assistance dogs or loved pets.

London Underground

TFL has a really good range of accessible travel guides which you should check out and use during your trip. They include an audio tube map, step-free tube guide and tube toilet map, all of which are free and can be downloaded in advance.

If you’re a bit nervous of large crowds, beat the queues and check out the TfL Journey Planner to ensure you make the most of your trip.

Buses

There are plenty of accessible buses in operation across 700 London bus routes which are fitted with low-level floors, audiovisual announcers and wheelchair ramps.

It’s worth noting that wheelchair users can travel free of charge on all TfL buses and registered assistance dogs are welcome on board.

Docklands Light Railway (DLR)

As a newer network, the DLR is one of London’s most accessible forms of public transport and has excellent access for wheelchair users with ramp access and lifts in many of its stations.

Similar to the bus network, the DLR allows registered assistance dogs to travel on-board.

Trams

Trams in London are also managed by TfL. There are services from Croydon to Wimbledon, Beckenham Junction, Elmers End and New Addington.

Whilst they are only available in limited locations, they are highly accessible and have priority seating for elderly and disabled passengers, wheelchair accessible buttons and level access on the platform.

Overground trains

With so many different rail network operators, you may wish to check out live departures, status information, route maps and timetables in advance to ensure your visit is as stress-free as possible.

You can also download a list of Accessible Overground Stations to ensure you know exactly which stations have step-free access to both trains and platforms.
