Dog-friendly London

Just because you’re planning a trip to Central London, it doesn’t mean to say you have to leave the family dog at home. You’d be surprised by the number of pooch-friendly activities and events that go on in the UK’s capital – some of which sound barking mad!

They include trips to the cinema, murder mysteries, food festivals, beer festivals, yoga, meditation, swimming, jogging and, of course, walkies!

Here’s our guide to dog-friendly activities in London:

Public Transport

According to Transport for London, you can take your dog on public transport if it’s well behaved – if it seems dangerous, TfL drivers have the right to refuse to carry it. Dogs must be kept on a lead and are not allowed on the seats. Dogs must always be carried on moving escalators for their own safety – so if you have a large dog, use the stairs, or a lift if there is one.

If you want to hail a taxi, be aware that it is at the driver’s discretion whether they take your pet dog. Alternatively, search online for one of the many pet-friendly taxi services there are in London.

Boats

Dogs love boats as much as humans, and we love having canines aboard, so treat the whole family to a river cruise with us or our sister company, Thames River Services. We’ll have its tail wagging in no time!

Dog-friendly cafés and restaurants

A swift Google search shows up many dog-friendly places to eat along the Circular Cruise’s route. Restaurants like the National Theatre’s Green Room (nearest pier: Festival), or the Table Café in Southwark (nearest pier: Bankside).

Dog-friendly hotels

If you are planning to spend a few days in London, many hotels advertise themselves as being dog-friendly so they can enjoy a city break too! You’ll find a range of kennels that’ll suit the whole pack, from budget hotels to five-star pampered pet luxury.

The Londog

A useful website that’s worth checking out if you’re planning to take your dog to London is The Londog. This is where you’ll find out all about pup-friendly attractions and events, as well as articles about making your trip pawfect for the whole family!
