2 Mar 2018 — Thames River Sightseeing
If you’re looking for a last-minute idea to treat your mother this Mother’s Day, why not bring her to London for a day at the South Bank. You may need to wrap up warm, but there’s no reason not to venture out as there’s plenty to do and see. And with a Circular Cruise ticket, you can hop-off and hop-on at a number of piers, combining a sightseeing trip on the River Thames to enhance your Mother’s Day treat.
Touristy activities
See more of London from the warmth of a pod on the London Eye (nearest pier: Westminster). If you don’t fancy standing outside in the queue, spend a bit more on a fast track ticket – you could also upgrade to a Champagne Experience (which also includes fast tracking).
For great views of the river itself, try the Tower Bridge Experience (nearest pier: Tower Bridge Quay), with its glass walkway 42 metres above the Thames. You can also find out more about the history of the bridge and the people who built it.
If your Mum is an art lover, the Tate Modern (nearest pier: Bankside) is always worth a visit. The gallery currently has a major exhibition about Modigliani which is on until 2 April. Whilst you’re there, have a look around the free galleries – whatever your views about modern art, there’s bound to be something you’ll either love or hate!
Afternoon tea
There can’t be many mums out there who wouldn’t want to be treated to an afternoon tea. On the South Bank, you could push the boat out at The Library based in County Hall (nearest pier: Westminster), or the Oxo Tower Restaurant (nearest pier: Festival). If your Mum has a sweet tooth and would prefer something less traditional, try the Oxo Tower Brasserie’s Not Afternoon Tea for a selection of desserts and a cocktail.
Alternatively, you could take a stroll along the South Bank and choose from one of the many cafés and restaurants that line the route. Or find somewhere to eat at St Katharine Dock (nearest pier: Tower Bridge Quay) where you can overlook the marina and daydream about owning one of the boats.
