2 Feb 2018 — Thames River Sightseeing
Even though it feels like we’ve only just had half term and the weather still feels very wintry, the early Easter this year means the school holidays are nearly upon us. And according to the Met Office, the weather is still likely to be unsettled over the Easter bank holiday weekend, with temperatures slightly lower than average for the time of year. When you’re planning what to do with the kids in London over the Easter holidays, it would therefore be sensible to concentrate on indoor activities!
Luckily, Circular Cruise boats have heated cabins so you can still enjoy sightseeing, but without having to brave the elements. And if the weather is good (fingers crossed), you can enjoy the view in the open air from the decks.
Our boats call at five piers on the round trip between Westminster Pier and Tower Bridge Quay, and there are plenty of indoor attractions along the South Bank worth exploring. And, remember, if you’re travelling in from outside London and have a valid Travel Card, you can get ⅓ off the cost of your cruise.
Here’s our guide to attractions within easy walking distance of each of our piers:
Houses of Parliament tour – this is one of the lesser-known tourist attractions in London, but it provides a fascinating insight into the seat of the British government. Family-friendly guided tours are available, and the kids go free.
Indoor activities are scarce, but if you’re travelling into London by train to Charing Cross Station, this is the nearest to join a Circular Cruise. If it’s a nice day, you could take a short stroll in Victoria Embankment Gardens or get a closer view of Cleopatra’s Needle.
Culture vultures can explore the South Bank where there are often free events in the foyer of the Royal Festival Hall and the National Theatre, and there are many cafés where you can have a nice hot drink.
Bankside Pier is virtually on the doorstep of The Globe Theatre, with guided tours every half-hour. As the Globe is an outdoor theatre, you will be exposed to the elements some of the time, so take a brolly or a waterproof if it looks like rain.
There are two globally-famous attractions in easy walking distance. The first is the Tower Bridge Experience. On Good Friday and Easter Saturday there a number of scheduled bridge lifts, so make sure you get a good viewing spot if you want to see them. The second is the iconic Tower of London which provides a fantastically historic day out for all the family. If you’re planning to visit the Tower, remember that by buying your entry ticket through us, you’ll get a discount as well as a massive 50% discount on your Circular Cruise ticket. Click here to book!
